The Tamarind
Home > Australia > Maleny QLD
Set amidst the beautiful rolling hills and rainforest of Maleny, the Tamarind Cookery Retreat offers a special environment for those who love and appreciate great food to indulge their passion.
Learn the intricacies of authentic Thai cuisine from owner/chef Paul Blain. Paul's passion for this cuisine is infectious, and his knowledge and understanding of ingredients, techniques and the balance of flavors are effectively conveyed through his relaxed and informal approach.
On arrival, enjoy a coffee as you ponder over the recipes you will prepare. The class begins with a discussion of the fundamentals of Thai cuisine and ingredients, and then Paul will introduce you to the characteristics of each of the five different dishes you will prepare for the banquet. A refreshing glass of lime soda is served as you chop, pound, grind and stir your way towards an impressive Thai banquet which you will enjoy with a glass of wine.
Our weekend package is great for couples - combine a relaxing weekend getaway with a cooking class. Stay in the beautiful bungalows of The Tamarind, spend Saturday indulging in great food and wine in a hands-on cooking class, and follow up with a leisurely Sunday exploring the arts, crafts and natural beauty of the Maleny area.
In addition to the popular cooking classes at the Tamarind, Paul Blain also conducts weeklong cookery holidays on Koh Samui Thailand. Run by UK based company Tasting Places, classes are conducted twice a year at a small privately owned resort - Laem Set Inn - on the southern tip of Koh Samui. The weeklong course involves hands-on cooking classes, market tours, boat trips, wine tasting and indulgent lunches and dinners under the palm trees.
