PCC Cooks classes are held in fully equipped cooking kitchens in our Greenlake, Issaquah and West Seattle stores, at our new store in Redmond, and at our co-op office. Our kitchens have been designed to showcase our instructors' techniques, with ample counter space and viewing mirrors or video monitors to make following along as easy as possible.

The key to independence and confidence in the kitchen is information and experience. Whether you’re a beginner or totally comfortable in the kitchen, you’ll learn lots of useful tips, techniques and recipes from our expert instructors, with plenty of hands-on time.

PCC Cooks began in 1983 as an educational and nutritional program called FoodWorks, which was designed to introduce our members and shoppers to the delicious world of natural cooking. Over the past two decades, PCC Cooks has grown to include four fully equipped teaching kitchens offering more than 400 classes a year.

The program originated in the 1970s with cooking demonstrations at card tables in stores, hosted by PCC's nutrition education manager, Goldie Caughlan. Goldie's demos for simple recipes using bulk foods were a hit and the demand for expanded cooking classes eventually led to the creation of a full-time cooking program, which — at the time — featured eight classes.
