Alaskan Culinary Adventure
Kirsten offers cooking classes on a regular basis at their rustic adventure lodge, with weekend classes occurring once a month. Class instruction includes course materials (a notebook, apron and tote bag), and accompanying wines which will compliment our culinary topic. Guests can spend as much or as little time as they like in the kitchen with Kirsten. In addition, you can join Carl for exciting outdoor adventures when you are not involved in the culinary festivities!
The lodge lies 198 trail miles northwest of Anchorage along Alaska's historic Iditarod Trail. The lodge sits on 15 acres overlooking Winter Lake, a finger-shaped 2-mile lake where we land by floatplane in the summer and skiplane in the winter.
The lodge offers seclusion and spectacular scenery. Views of the Trimble Glacier and the beginnings of the Rainy Pass are visible from the lake. Behind the lodge, Wolverine Mountain offers intriguing hiking and wildlife viewing. We have many species of Alaska birds, wildflowers and berries that are difficult to see in other locales. Our lodge is also the starting point for neighboring adventures. We float the Happy River, fish the Canyon Creek area, and explore the Upper Skwentna River and scenic Red Creek. We always offer daily exploration opportunities.
The retreat’s commercial kitchen area is home to our culinary programs. We have many visiting chefs and specialized culinary programs at the lodge throughout the year.
Because we have an interest in cuisine, and Alaska cuisine in particular, we have an emphasis on culinary excellence and education. You are welcome to come into the kitchen at any time and help us cook if you like! Meals are served from one daily menu, but you are welcome to request special dishes or tell us if you have dislikes. We have frequent lakeside barbecues, which often feature Alaska salmon and Alaska King crab.
Our lodge on Winter Lake is our only property that is open year round. It is the Finger Lake checkpoint along the Iditarod Trail and open for winter adventure activities from November to April.
