A Taste of Taos Culinary Adventures in Northern New Mexico
Taos’ rich Native American heritage, which displays a profound respect for the land, continues strongly to this day. In addition to being an important historic site, Taos is also an artistic mecca, proudly offering museums and galleries of its talented artists and craftspeople. The beauty of Taos has attracted many famous artists, photographers, writers and actors from all over the world, including John Nichols, D.H. Lawrence, Georgia O’Keefe, Dennis Hopper, Julia Roberts, etc. And Taos has more art galleries per capita than any other location in America for those who like to mix art with their culinary adventures. Taos is also home to very talented chefs who are lending their skills to the art of culinary instruction. Your getaway will include hands-on cooking paired with gourmet dining to create memories of a magical (if not mystical) experience in this truly enchanting destination.
San Geronimo Lodge - King or Queen Guest Room
Taos, New Mexico Bed and Breakfast at its finest! Built in 1925, the San Geronimo lodge was one of the first hotels in Taos, and the first “resort” hotel. This enchanting inn offers historic charm with all the comfort and convenience of modern day lodging. Offering spacious rooms, swimming pool, hot tub and high speed Internet access, our charming bed and breakfast hideaway is a perfect home base for all your Taos, New Mexico adventures.
Gourmet Southwestern Breakfast
You’ll be raving about this breakfast long after you have departed from Taos. Authentic New Mexican breakfasts are served piping hot, and can include menu items such as Green Chile Strata, Blue Corn Blueberry Pancakes, Spinach Frittata, Breakfast Burritos with Homemade Salsa…as well as American favorites that include Omelettes, French Toast, Muffins, Scones and Fresh Fruits and Berries. While breakfast is a dining experience in and of itself, the goal is to fill you with energy so that you can tackle your day filled with culinary and cultural activities.
Hands-On Cooking and Dining with Chef Maher
Join James Beard recognized chef, Chris Maher, for this 100% hands-on culinary workshop in what is considered to be the jewel of the land of enchantment. Although New Mexico is most famous for it’s chiles and salsas, you will enjoy an integration and fusion of global cuisine and also New Mexican fare. Classes are 100% hands on participation lasting approximately three hours. You’ll discuss techniques, be assigned prep tasks, cook and then sit down to enjoy what you have prepared together. Students have fun gaining new skills, and walk away having learned unique recipes, techniques and theory.
Northern New Mexican Dining Adventure
Doc Martin's Restaurant is an acclaimed fine dining establishment located in a registered historic landmark. A Taos tradition for locals and visitors alike, the warm ambiance of the main latilla room in Doc's has been a gathering place since the Taos Society of Artist's first met here in the 1920's and 30's. Headed by Executive Chef Gary “Zippy” White, the menu is a presentation of New American and Northern New Mexican cuisine, specializing in fresh organic foods from the Southwest. Known for its incredible value and extensive breadth of selections from old to new world, their wine list has earned Wine Spectator's "Best Of" Award of Excellence for twenty-one consecutive years. Pastry Chef Gayle Glanz creates sumptuous “beyond belief” desserts nightly that tantalize the senses and send customers away with sweet memories.
Optional Self-Guided Taos Pueblo Tour
Taos Pueblo is the only living Native American community designated both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark. The multi-storied adobe buildings have been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years. You are encouraged to visit this historic village when traveling in Northern New Mexico. The Taos Pueblo is open from 8 AM to 4 PM daily. Price of admission is only $10 per person, and there is a $6 per camera fee if you intend to take pictures (and who wouldn’t?).
