French Croissant Class
A historic district, blending charm and culture, the Notre-Dame district of Paris can be considered the historical heart of the "City of Light." Its origins date back to the early days of the city's birth, when the banks of the Seine were still marshy and wild. Over time, from the Île de la Cité and its immediate surroundings, this neighborhood has transformed and remains today a symbol of Paris' cultural richness and radiance. In medieval times, Notre-Dame de Paris and Saint-Michel were centers of faith and knowledge. The imposing churches and narrow streets still bear witness to this era when religion and scholarship were intertwined with daily life. In the 17th century, the district experienced a renaissance with the rise of the aristocracy, and sumptuous mansions were erected along the cobbled streets of the Île de la Cité and the Île Saint-Louis. During the 19th century, the neighborhood underwent rapid transformations, transitioning from a center of power to a meeting place for artists and intellectuals. The Parisian bohemia found refuge in the lively cafés and picturesque bookstores of Saint-Michel.
